Get to Know More About Physiotherapist Kelly Challinor!

Updated: Mar 2, 2023

Kelly is one of our physiotherapists that works out of the Pandosy Kelowna clinic. She is available for physiotherapy bookings on Tuesdays and Thursdays and has morning and evening availability. Kelly is a kind, welcoming person and is a great addition to our team. We asked Kelly some questions so you can get to know her better!

Where are you from, what are some of your interests and hobbies?

I'm originally from Tsawwassen, BC and have moved around a lot since graduating high school. I have lived in Kingston (ON), Victoria (BC), Sydney (Australia), Toronto (ON), and now here in Kelowna! Outside of work, I spend most of my spare time running. I also love to downhill and cross country ski in the winter time and in the summer I like to hike, backpack, and camp. Last year I found out I really liked pottery and have been trying to get back into that as a non-active hobby!

Tell us how and why you got into running?

I originally got into running when one of my good friends ran a half marathon and I thought it sounded like a fun challenge. From there I had a time in mind I wanted to beat and being a competitive person, that has kept me going ever since!

What would be one of the best tips you can give to someone that is wanting to start preparing for a half marathon?

Consistency is super important! It's better to start slow and not jump in too fast and be able to sustain that for a full training period, rather than throwing yourself in off the deep end and ending up injured. In addition, strength training is going to be your best friend. Try not to forget about it! It will help improve your efficiency, making you faster, as well as help stave off injuries that can leave you side lined.

What made you want to become a physiotherapist?

I grew up in the dance world and experienced my fair share of injuries. I was introduced to physiotherapy as a teenager and loved the atmosphere of the clinics I went to. It seemed like a great collaborative space, and I loved the problem solving aspect of the job! No two people are the same and it's fun tailoring treatments to each individual person, their hobbies, and their personal goals.

What would you say your treatment style is?

My treatment style is a mix of manual, hands on treatment and exercises tailored to each individual. I aim to give everyone I work with the tools to manage their own health at home and want to get each person back to their personal best as quickly as possible!

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

I love living in BC and honestly can't see myself living anywhere else! I love to hike, backpack, ski, run, and anything else that involves being outside, so BC is a great place to call home! However, if I could visit anywhere in the world, I would love to go on a big hiking (and eating!) trip to the Dolomites in Italy.

Do you have any half marathons or marathons you are preparing for now?

Right now I am preparing for the First Half in Vancouver in February. I am still deciding on a spring and a fall marathon (as well as some shorter races in between) so stay tuned!
