THOMAS SHELLEY
Registered Physiotherapist
BSc., MPT
Hi, I’m Thomas. Thanks for stopping by my page!
As far back as I can remember I have enjoyed being active. In high school, I was a multi-sport athlete in cross-country, volleyball, hockey, soccer, and track-and-field. However, I focused my athletic career on hockey, ultimately playing four years of NCAA hockey while attending Castleton University in Vermont.
While there I earned my Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science as well as a few minors in Fitness and Sport Science, Natural Science, and Business Administration. Unfortunately, like many athletes, I experienced multiple injuries that required surgery and rehabilitation. From those experiences, I realized the positive impact physiotherapists could have not only in the life of an athlete but also for anyone who wants to overcome injury and pain, gain a better understanding of the human body, and get back to the things that matter most to them.
I then returned to Canada to complete my Master of Physical Therapy at the University of Western Ontario. Upon graduation, I worked in London, Ontario as a physiotherapist in both a sports injury clinic as well as in a hospital on an orthopedic and traumatology team.
Now, I’m excited to be joining Neumovement to apply my knowledge, experience, and passion for health and fitness to restore your health to its fullest potential.
FAVOURITE QUOTE TO LIVE BY
The Golden Rule - “Do to others what you would have them do to you” Matthew 7: 12. The famous basketball coach, John Wooden, was offered this advice from his father; do not think of yourself anymore or any less than anyone else. I believe these statements go hand in hand and if we truly want to make a positive impact on those we interact with these principles are the best place to start.
WHY DO YOU LOVE NEUMOVEMENT?
For me, rehabilitation is about enabling patients to get back to the things in life that are important to them. Although that path may look different for each person, NeuMovement offers the tools to make it possible. We know that spending time with you is vitally important and our treatment times reflect that. The backbone of our treatment is manual therapy and exercise because current research supports it. And each of our locations house a team of clinicians who collaborate to support you through your rehab journey.
FUN FACT:
I’m part of a group who holds a Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Playing Dodgeball, clocking in at 41 hours, 3 minutes, and 17 seconds!
FAVOURITE DAY OFF ACTIVITY?
It really depends on the season. My wife and I moved to Kelowna to have access to the outdoors so hopefully, we are outside taking it all in. During the warmer months, I may be biking, hiking, or swimming, playing tennis, golf, or even spikeball. When it cools down you are more likely to find me on a rink coaching young goalies or out on the slopes snowboarding.
