CHIROPRACTOR
Dr. Shawna Tyler
Chiropractor
Dr. Shawna Tyler, originally from Edmonton, Alberta, completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with distinction at the University of Alberta. As an undergraduate, she excelled as a national-level track and field heptathlete on the UofA varsity team. She went on to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic cum laude with clinic honours from Toronto's Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2005. After graduating, Dr. Tyler returned to Alberta and established her clinic in Calgary, where she practiced for 14 years. In 2017, she married and welcomed a son in 2018, prompting a move to the Okanagan in interior BC to raise her family and serve the local community.

As a former high-performance athlete who experienced chronic low back pain, Shawna developed a deep understanding of the impact of ongoing pain. Her personal experience and successful rehabilitation in her practice have reinforced her belief that a life free of pain and limitations is attainable for everyone. Shawna's treatment approach is three-fold: detective work to uncover the root cause of injury, physical skill in applying techniques, and connection with patients. She combines chiropractic manipulation and soft-tissue therapies such as Active Release Technique (ART), Graston Technique, and Kinesiotaping. An advocate for Pilates rehabilitation, Shawna integrates these methods to help clients achieve their full potential. She empowers patients by educating them about their condition, clearly outlining her treatment plan, and providing practical techniques to aid their recovery.

OSTEOPATH
Ryan Mercier
Osteopath
Hi, I’m Ryan Mercier — an experienced Osteopathic Manual Practitioner who has recently relocated to Kelowna from Ontario. I hold a four-year Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Psychology from Laurentian University and a four-year Master’s in Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy.
Growing up, I was always active and involved in sports, which naturally sparked my passion for human movement and biomechanics. This curiosity eventually evolved into a career focused on helping people move, function, and feel better by restoring balance and alignment to the body’s structure.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of people — from children and seniors to athletes, desk workers, and tradespeople — and have seen consistent results across all systems of the body. Whether you're dealing with musculoskeletal pain like sciatica, TMJ dysfunction, or chronic back pain; headaches or migraines; preparing for or recovering from surgery; managing digestive issues like IBS, bloating, reflux, or constipation; or navigating respiratory, hormonal, circulatory, lymphatic, or nervous system challenges — osteopathy offers a hands-on approach that supports your body’s natural ability to heal and self-regulate.
Osteopathy uses differential diagnosis to find the root cause of your symptoms, focusing on how one issue can lead to another. By treating the underlying cause, rather than just masking the symptoms, we help restore balance and support your body’s natural healing process.
Additionally, osteopathic treatments are covered under most benefit packages, making it easier for you to access the care you need.
I’m excited to be part of the Kelowna community and look forward to welcoming you to the clin

MASSAGE THERAPISTS

Akela Derksen
Registered MassageTherapist
After attending university in Ontario, Akela relocated back to beautiful British Columbia to complete her Registered Massage Therapy diploma at Okanagan College of Massage Therapy and graduated in 2019. As her knowledge of human anatomy and physiology grew so did her passion for helping clients reach their health and wellness goals. Akela also has a background in personal training which brings an interactive approach to her treatments.

Akela deeply believes that movement is medicine and that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. Her treatment style uses a sports massage approach with techniques such as hydro therapy, PNF stretching, myofascial release, and Swedish massage to help improve muscle imbalances and biomechanics, as well as promote tissue healing. She also uses body awareness and therapeutic exercise to help her patients understand the mind-body connection.

Akela and her husband own a hobby farm outside Kelowna and she spends most her free time gardening, looking after her chickens, and exploring the many hiking trails in the area with her dog, Franklyn. After spending time away from BC, Akela can safely say she never plans on leaving the amazing Okanagan!

Austin Fountaine
Registered MassageTherapist
Austin is a recent graduate of the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy diploma program, finishing up in November 2024. Born in the lower mainland, he was raised in Kelowna until graduating high school after which he spent a year living and working in Victoria. He developed a love for skiing from a young age, spending most weekends during his childhood with friends at Big White. In recent years he has swapped the higher impact sports for paddleboarding, rock climbing, and time spent in the gym. Austin likes to live slowly, spending time in or around the water in the summer, on a bike ride with friends, or reading at home with his cat Minnie.
He initially became interested in massage as a career when he was involved in a car accident at seventeen that left him concussed and with a fractured cervical vertebra. Receiving massage treatment was instrumental to his recovery. His love for working with his hands and his mind, along with personal experience with injury recovery, ignited a passion that was reinforced everyday during his education. New to the profession Austin has an interest in expanding his repertoire with instrument assisted techniques, he also has a passion for working on the neck and head owing to his own experiences.
He is excited to get to know you, meet you where you are at in your healing journey, and work with you to achieve the best possible results!
PILATES INSTRUCTORS

Malrie Stratford
Certified Pilates Instructor
Having completed her Pilates, anatomy, and active rehab training with Neumovement, Malrie's teaching style focuses on alignment and activation, and she truly love what she does. She is incredibly grateful to be able to call this my work and enjoy working with a diverse range of individuals, including those in pre/post-surgery, general injury rehab, and those seeking mind-body connection, alignment, stability, and overall strength. Malrie also enjoy helping athletes improve their performance and address instabilities. Outside the studio, her passions include everything related to dogs, as she loves talking about my fur kids Bentley and Piper. She is also skilled in cooking and baking, having obtained my Red Seal in culinary arts, and I believe that simplicity often makes the best dishes. Additionally, I find joy in activities like yoga, hiking, and indulging in the good things the Okanagan region has to offer, like wine.

Becca Cook
Kinesiologist, Certified Pilates Instructor
Becca uses her kinesiology background to guide her clients through Pilates based rehab programs. In your sessions you can expect to work on fascial release to relieve muscle tension, Pilates exercises to develop muscle connections, and increase muscle strength and endurance. Becca takes a progressive rehab approach to create a strong foundation, reduce pain, and prevent injury.

Taylor Kjartanson
Certified Pilates Instructor
Taylors passion for movement began at the ripe age of three years old when she was enrolled in her first dance class and fitted for her first pair of figure skates. Falling in love with all genres of dance, she spent countless hours in the studio as a competitive dancer and instructor. Naturally, Taylor was quickly introduced to the world of physiotherapy to aid minor injuries and support my training.
Graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a desire to help others achieve their preventive and rehabilitative goals, she completed the Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant diploma program at Vancouver Community College. With her formal education and certifications as a Personal Trainer and Clinical Pilates Instructor, she is dedicated to providing individualized and client centered care to help you get back to the activities that are meaningful to you!
